Full-time Accredited Course
About the Advanced Diploma in Rudolf Steiner Education
(Course code 10527NAT, CRICOS 086202A).
This is a full-time accredited course of study which equips students with a comprehensive grounding in anthroposophy, and in the theory and practice of Steiner Education.
It provides an essential and critical pre-requisite pathway to a university Bachelor of Education, which qualifies graduates to teach in both Steiner schools and mainstream Australian schools. Steiner Schools around Australia have an urgent need for professionally trained Steiner teachers, and highly regard this qualification as the basis for employment. See our Careers/Graduate Outcomes and Pathways page for further information about employment as a Steiner Teacher.
The course also provides a rich experience for students seeking to develop themselves in accordance with their deepest nature and to find their true path in life.
Over the year the students are involved in a broad range of studies which are theoretical, practical and artistic, described in brief below.
In a Steiner curriculum, painting, drawing and modelling, music, drama and movement are not only stand alone subjects, but are fully integrated across almost every area of the curriculum. For example, numeracy, literacy, geography, history etc.
In the first year, students take a series of foundation modules in the themes of humanities, sciences and arts. It includes a practical placement in a Steiner School for ten days.
The second year further develops the student’s knowledge and experience in teaching by studying child development, the Steiner curriculum, and undertaking practical placement in schools of a total of forty days.
NOTE ON THE PRACTICUM REQUIREMENTS: please note that while our teaching week at the Seminar is from Tuesday-Thursday, during Practicum placement students are required to attend their school from Monday-Thursday (minimum) in order to complete the correct numbers of days in schools, as per our accredited syllabus. This means that students need to make advanced arrangements with employers to ensure that they are available to attend and complete their Practicum.

Obtaining a qualification- competency based assessment
In order to obtain your qualification you must successfully complete all the prescribed units of competency over the two years. Each unit comprises a number of “elements”. The assessment is based upon a competency model; that is, you don’t receive a mark (eg, A, B, C) for your assignments but rather a ‘satisfactory’ or ‘not yet satisfactory’ on the basis of your performance. In order to successfully complete a unit of competency, you must be assessed as satisfactory for every element.
The Melbourne Rudolf Steiner Seminar meets the requirements of the Standards for Registered Training Organisation 2015 across all its scope of registration and meets the requirements of the Standards for all AQF certification documentation it has issued in the previous 12 months.
The Melbourne Rudolf Steiner Seminar has training and assessment strategies and practices in place that ensure that all current and prospective learners will be trained and assessed in accordance with the requirements of the Standards.
